Dr. Scott Monteith is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He was Chief Resident in his psychiatric residency, is board-certified in psychiatry, and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is a Past President of the Michigan Psychiatric Society; Associate Program Director of the rural track psychiatry residency in Traverse City, MI; Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Psychiatry at Michigan State University; has worked with his local community mental health center for over 30 years; and is a founder of Behavioral Medicine Associates, PLLC. Health information technology (HIT) has been Dr. Monteith's interest for nearly 40 years. He promotes HIT and extensively uses it in his clinical and administrative work, but recognizes implementations can be costly with negative ROIs, create patient safety problems, reduce efficiency, and pose other serious challenges (e.g., clinician burnout).
