An all-volunteer charity organization, we stage monthly luncheons and a yearly black-tie Day of Champions dinner to honor local student athletes and coaches and raise money for local non-profit groups. We feature major sports headliners at our banquet. Recent celebrities have included Muhammad Ali, Joe Torre, Peyton Manning, Arnold Palmer, Cal Ripken Jr., Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Goose Gossage, Drew Brees, Clay Matthews Jr., Colin Kaepernick and Doug Flutie. Since I joined the board of directors more than 15 years ago, the club has raised more than $700,000 for local charities. During that time, I've served as dinner chair, performed question-and-answer sessions with the headliners, coordinated press conferences and edited and written much of the 70-page program we produce for each banquet.
