Global Infrastructure ManagerVictrex Feb 2010 - May 2013Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire, GbA FTSE 250 Victrex is the world’s leading manufacturer of high performance polyaryletherketone (PEEK) materials. Victrex PEEK plastic excels in hostile environments and with more than 30 years of experience, Victrex has a production, technology, customer service, and distribution team that spans more than 30 countries worldwide. As Group Infrastructure Manager my role was to plan, organize, and manage resources and operations to ensure the stable operation and continuous development of Victrex’s global ICT infrastructure: This included the specification, development, maintenance and optimisation of key functional areas, including the desktop environment, network and server infrastructure, information management, security compliance and telecommunications systems. Victrex’s global network was built in 2005 on legacy TDM circuits & was running near full capacity with no scalability. I researched the market and ran a tender process with eight market leading vendors: Upon my recommendation the £1m contract for the provision of a three year, eight country network was awarded to Masergy Communications. The transformation of the network enabled the commissioning of Data Centres in Manchester & London. With the foundations in place I then started to look at enhancing the desktop environment. I felt it would be unrealistic to try and deploy so many machines globally with my in-house resources and therefore recommended that we enlisted the help of an integrator. In partnership with SCC I delivered Windows 7 & Office 2010 throughout Europe, America & Asia using Microsoft SCCM 2007R2.Responsible for the management of an extended virtual team consisting of 11 who were complemented by key partners offering specialist skills: The effective management of these partners was vital to ensuring continuous business operations.
