RunnerWww.Runtheusa.Com Feb 2003 - Aug 2003Running with my friend Dave Bronfenbrenner, a former teammate at Bucknell, we became the first people to ever “blog source” their way running across the United States without a support vehicle and without spending any money for lodging. We strictly stuck to our plans of no hotels, no campgrounds, and not accepting financial or brand sponsorships. Using our website www.runtheusa.com we found people to host us each night in the towns through which we ran. If we were not taken in by friends or strangers, we slept in sleeping bags in open fields, behind buildings, in cattle pipes, or anywhere we could seek shelter. We each had just 12 lbs of gear, which we strapped to a “baby-jogger,” which we alternated pushing every 5 minutes for the duration of the trip. Managing and promoting our website and blog took on a life of its own as we developed quite a cult following of fans. In August 2003, after 160 days on the road, we successfully completed the 3200 mile run on the beaches of Florence, Oregon. We then wrote and article for, and appeared on the cover of the April 2004 edition of Running Times Magazine
