Profile bio

About Scott Stevenson

Over the last 20 years I have worked on many GUI, web and back-end projects. Some from scratch, others were maintenance and enhancements of well established systems. What I have learned about myself in this time is that I love making things better. From simple things like enabling compression and caching in web server, using Ajax to download cacheable JSON files to improve web page load times, creating self-help tools for users and creating coding and documentation standards to the more complex SQL and stored procedure performance and tuning.I also discovered that, whilst not as fun as coding, good technical and testing documentation, comprehensive and repeatable testing (including unit, regression, system and performance) and thorough peer reviews are vital to reducing production issues. Having spent a lot of time improving the performance and stability of the system and being the first point of call for production issues during my business day were added incentives to not only release good quality code that is well tested and documented but also to encourage and enforce my team to do likewise through coding and documentation standards, audited peer reviews and requiring sign-off for database and job schedule changes.

Listed skills include Java, Sql, Jsp, Html, and 44 others.
