Litigation and government relations practice. Representing corporations, individuals, and nonprofits on antitrust, land use/environmental, health care, employment, tort, and general business issues in court, before administrative agencies, and at the legislature.

• Complex civil litigation, including patent infringement, antitrust, fraud, products liability, and environmental cases.
• First-chair on several jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration proceedings.

• Principal adviser to attorney general on labor, agriculture, budget, tax, and trade and economic development issues.
• Troubleshooter for attorney general and chief deputy on office management issues.
• Liaison to governor’s office, legislative leadership, and executive branch agencies.

• General counsel to departments of natural resources and agriculture, board of water and soil resources, and Minnesota State Fair.
• Supervised seventeen attorneys and support staff responsible for waters, pesticide control, and land use litigation, real estate transactions, and contracts.
• Handled high-profile treaty litigation and Indian law disputes.

• General counsel to labor and industry and agriculture departments.
• Supervised eleven attorneys, two legal assistants and two law clerks.
• Responsible for state’s OSHA, wage-and-hour, workers’ compensation and other labor litigation, and agriculture-related litigation and policy development.
• Principal adviser to attorney general on labor and agriculture issues.

• Complex, constitutional defense, and other special litigation.
• Developed and pursued legislation involving state labor law remedies, farm credit, groundwater and wetlands protection.
• Manager of agriculture unit; general counsel to agriculture department.

• One of two attorneys handling bulk of State’s employment defense litigation.
• Counsel to state strike committee, state labor negotiator.
• Handled OSHA and wage-and-hour civil and administrative prosecutions.
• Promoted to one of sixteen assistant attorney general positions in 180-attorney office in 1985.
