The role required the provision of strategic guidance to organisations with regard to spatial enablement of major business processes.

As a Senior Geospatial Consultant, Scott contributed to Statistics NZ’s spatial enablement programme. This was primarily through focused geospatial research, analysis and GIS implementations. The role required the development of connections and clear communications between internal and external stakeholders in order to influence the geospatial programmes strategic direction. Key to this task was promoting debate and drawing out suggestions from the wider organisation in order to improve ideas and processes.Scott provided coaching and mentoring, and used his experience to ensure that fit for purpose systems were delivered. This required Scott to identify project risks and work to mitigate these with relevant parties in order to influence the best possible outcome.

Activities included creating proof of concept applications thought to GIS support for 'off the shelf' spatially enabled applications.• The provision of training and strategic support to Integration and Consultancy Partners. • The support of a wide range of value added resellers. Helping identify the most appropriate technology components for their needs, considered against technology updates and budget. The role required a broad range of skills including:• Development skills covering ArcGIS desktop and web applications, primarily using .Net (C#) and Silverlight.• Database skills, including MS Access, SQL Server.• Requirements gathering and business analysis skills.
