Lead HQI's analytics and data team in the continued development, improvement, and operation of the Hospital Quality Improvement Platform (hospital encounters) and CHPSOData system (hospital safety event reports), which were created to receive, process, and standardize data from hospitals to provide them with direction for their quality and safety improvement opportunities, view their performance over time, and provide them state and customized comparisons to gauge their relative performance towards the goal of achieving zero harm. This includes supporting the expanded scope of these initiatives with a team of HQI, California Hospital Association (CHA), and Regional Hospital Association leaders to provide limited data sets for use by CHA and the Regional Associations for Public Health Improvement to inform policy and issue development for California hospitals. Providing these data analytic capabilities is exciting and important work that includes the help of strong industry partners. I am head of HQI's Analytics Team (The A-Team), and together with association colleagues and partnerships, bring forward data as a strong integrating strategy to advance a Federated One Team Culture.

Directed and managed all aspects of HIV case and incidence surveillance in California, including managing the activities of the Surveillance Quality Management Unit (SQMU) and the Data Management and Analysis Unit (DMAU). The SQMU had seven staff members who were responsible for working with California’s 61 local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to obtain HIV case surveillance data and enter it into the Enhanced HIV/AIDS Reporting System (eHARS). The SQMU was also responsible for training LHJ surveillance staff on all aspects of HIV surveillance, overseeing data security and confidentiality issues for the Surveillance Section and surveillance activities at LHJs; and implementing electronic data collection of case report forms. The DMAU also had seven staff members who focused on case surveillance data quality, data management, importation of data into eHARS, responding to routine case surveillance data requests; release of routine case surveillance data reports; and implementation of electronic laboratory reporting, geocoding, and molecular HIV surveillance. I also directly supervised 7 full time staff, including three senior epidemiologists who focused on analyzing surveillance data to improve prevention, care, and treatment programs in California, write dissemination products based on surveillance data, and complete complex data requests, ensuring that eHARS was used to achieve the public health goals of CDC, CDPH, and OA. Another direct report was the HIV surveillance laboratory coordinator, who worked with both SQMU and DMAU to ensure HIV laboratory data were complete, collected in a timely fashion, and disseminated to stakeholders.
