About Scott Westfahl

In September 2013, I joined the Harvard Law School faculty to lead the HLS Executive Education Program, teach in the school's J.D. program and collaborate on case writing and research. I am working to leverage my experience in professional and organizational development to help practicing lawyers, leaders in the legal profession and law students to realize their full potential. My courses for law students include a Leadership Fundamentals Workshop, a Legal Innovation Through Design Thinking seminar and other reading groups and seminars on resilient and adaptive leadership and keys to lawyer development. After practicing law for ten years, I led professional development at McKinsey & Company's Washington, DC office for six years. I then served as Director of Professional Development at Goodwin Procter LLP, and led the building of a professional development team and program. At both McKinsey and Goodwin Procter, my responsibilities spanned leadership and organizational development, associate integration, feedback and evaluations, mentoring, coaching, assignment processes, retention, transitions and alumni and diversity-related issues. I believe In contributing to the advancement of the legal profession. I am a past Chairman of the Professional Development Consortium, a 700+ member association of professional development leaders in the legal profession. I am also a strategic advisor to the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, a founding advisor to the Purple Campaign to end workplace sexual harassment and most recently am pleased to serve on the Advisory Board for the 2022 Women’s Power Summit to be convened by the Center for Women in Law at The University of Texas Law School. Awards:--Three national awards for designing iStaff, a web-based associate assignment database that links work assignments to professional development goals;--2006 Legal Marketing Association's Best Alumni Website award;--Named one of five "Innovators of the Year" by Law Firm, Inc. magazine in 2008.
