All ambulance trusts have developed Specialist Operations Response Teams (SORT) to help decontaminate casualties at incidents.The team helps at incidents that might involve chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or other hazardous materials. In these situations, particularly if there is a large number of patients, it’s really important that we decontaminate and treat people as quickly as we can.Trained in the use of specialist CBRNE PPE (PRPS), Dynamic Triage, Decontamination of Patients, Associated Decontamination Equipment, Associated Major Incident Equipment and Vehicles, C.C.A. & Related Safety Issues and Initial Operational Response awareness.

I undertook a 4 month secondment as a developing leading operations manager. The role included the day to day running of shifts, planning resources, performing return to works, dealing with staff welfare matters, KPI’s and responding to incidents in an operational commander role.

I undertook a 3 month secondment working on our Mental Health Street Triage (MHST) car. Working as part of a multi disciplinary team including a paramedic, mental health nurse/social worker and police officer. We attended patient’s suffering with MH issues to offer the best appropriate care and referrals to other MH services. The aim was to reduce the number of S136’s, make referrals to crisis teams or relay information to local services for follow ups.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:•Screen all personnel passing through the Archway Metal Detectors and manual body searching where necessary (with the exception of those listed by the Department for Transport). •Screen all items with explosive trace equipment and manual search, in order to ensure that no prohibited articles are taken into the critical part of the airport which could endanger aircraft, passengers and crew.•Controlling of access to the Critical Part of the airdrome, checking identification or travel documents for all passengers, staff and airport users requiring access.•Resolve queries from customers and assist them with their journey through their airport.•Read and adhere to security notices, completing documentation clearly and concisely on any incidents that may have occurred.•Responding to and assisting with emergency situations such as aircraft emergencies, terminal evacuations and security incidents.•Carry out patrols of the airside / landside areas to ensure that these locations are secure (i.e. any suspicious persons identified and their presence is justified, airside/landside doors are secure, etc.)•Attending to and investigating reports of any unattended baggage.•Aircraft guarding and escort duties within the Critical Part.•Enforcement of the airport byelaws by foot patrols of all airport property.•Assisting passengers with their general enquiries.
