In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I serve as a Department Liaison for International Students and School Representative for Q2 Committee.

In my Justice and Public Policy class at American University, I aim to generate a learning environment to promote my students mastery of the course content, as well as their critical assessment of criminal justice policies and practices.

During the doctoral program in Justice, Law, and Criminology at American University, with a second field of Public Policy, I gave concerted effort to improve my skills on quantitative research and statistics. I followed up and participated relevant courses in different departments. I have had a wealth of expertise working with statistical tools, including STATA, SPSS, and R. Terrorism and open source databases have been focus of my research. In collaboration with Dr. Brian Forst, my doctoral dissertation explores the why, how and under what conditions the primary actors report or do not report terrorist events. This interdisciplinary research evaluates the accuracy of terrorism data sources by uncovering the discrepancies between different accounts. Dr. Forst and I have given a series of on this subject at ASC conferences. In addition to my dissertation project, I have simultaneous projects that I intend to pursue as I move forward in my academic career. On one such project I am currently working with Drs. Erdal Tekin & Resul Cesur to evaluate the impact of terrorism on social polarization. Together we are investigating the relationship between separatist terrorism intensity in Turkey and the polarization and socio-political disintegration of racial and ethnic groups. In another project with Dr. Brad Bartholomew, we explore terrorism trends and patterns during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Military coups and terrorism is the topic of another project, on which I collaborate with Dr. Fatih Beren.

I worked as a graduate research assistant for Dr. Brad Bartholomew to assess and verify his open source data collection on anti-abortion-related terrorism events in the US. In another project we explore terrorism trends and patterns during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan

I combined my research skill with teaching Research Methods and Statistics courses. As a teacher, I have developed curriculums and delivered courses in a way that rewards open-mindedness, critical thinking, and innovations in the field.
