Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CAI) in 1985, Martin specialised in Corporate Tax and became a member of The Irish Tax Institute in 1987. Martin is a fellow of both institutes. Having become a partner at Farrell Grant Sparks (now Grant Thornton) in 1992, Martin worked with the firm's emerging technology businesses, a number of which has successful IPO's. Through this work, Martin gained valuable experience in advising on global Tax issues and became very familiar with the Investment Banking aspects of his clients' activities. In 2000, Martin joined Oyster Technologies, a technology investment vehicle established by successful tech entrepreneur Bill McCabe. Oyster has invested in many successful Irish technology businesses, with a particular emphasis on helping them grow their global sales organisations. More recently, Martin has also taken up the role as Principal at Pearl Residential Equity Fund which provides equity finance to residential property developers. He is also a Non Executive Director at the Irish youth mental health charity, Jigsaw where he is also chairman of its Finance Sub Committee.
