Scientist turned educator, currently teaching AP Physics 1, AP Physics C (Mechanics and Electromagnetism) and PreCalculus.My teaching philosophy revolves around inquiry based learning where students get to learn about how physical systems work using laboratory based experiments combined with actual classroom lectures. I also weave in the history of physics when I teach AP Physics classes, instruction becomes more interesting and exciting and there is a real connection with the names of the scientists that students hear about when they encounter Newton's Laws, Faraday's Law, and Lenz's law for example. Student feedback has taught me that talking about the historical development of physics actually helps them appreciate how the process of discovery works. I am also a strong proponent of concept based problem solving and approach difficult concepts using group based study. I also use the same philosophy in my math classes, weaving in actual construction in Geometry and using lateral connections within algebra, geometry, and physics to drive home difficult mathematical ideas. I use a lot of resources from my membership with the American Association of Physics Teachers.My research background: Soft-condensed matter physicist by training with research experience in the interdisciplinary areas of biophysics and optics with a successful history of managing and executing multidisciplinary projects from basic sciences in the microfluidics area to clinical imaging using custom built imaging modalities in the infrared domain.
