My name is Søren Emil Søe Degn, and I’m now a MSc in Industrial Design from Aalborg University. I finished my education the 11th of June, 2015, after 5 years learning different techniques and tools in the design process. As the education at Aalborg University focuses on working in groups I'm very comfortable working with other people, as this creates a great work-flow and the opportunity to spare with others and use their inputs in the design process. During my study I've gained experience in how to spot problems during initial research - using this research to ideate on possible solutions - and turning these ideas into products. But my job during group work, and also what I find most joy in doing, was mostly centered around the visualisation of the designed products and presentation of them. In my work I pay very much attention to detail, to some extend I would say that I’m bit of a perfectionist, which I believe is a very useful personal trait in this line of work. Outside the study, I've been lucky to have study related jobs, which have improved my skills in certain programs and added to my portfolio. Firstly, I've been working as a freelance graphic designer making logos for shops like Capshoppen.dk and Cocktailbartending.dk. I did this mainly as a hobby and created multiple unused logo suggestions at Amino.dk, but was lucky to sell a few. Secondly, I've worked as a student worker at Aalborg University, where my job consisted of; layout of folders, poster design and other small graphic assignments.
