I founded Leaning Technologies, a world-leading provider of WebAssembly-based development tools and solutions. Our tech is used by public and private sector organisations worldwide to solve legacy access and modernisation problems, and as part of large-scale web development efforts. We are proud to count the likes of Siemens, ADP, Dassault Systemes, Euronext, the US Federal Government, and the Government of Singapore among our customers. I am also the founder of DRS Software, and end-to-end software development firm specialised in legacy applications modernisation, WebAssembly and high-performance web development. In a previous life, I made wearable robots at Harvard, the Wyss Institute, and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. I authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal publications, book chapters, and am an inventor on 15 international and national patents. I was a major contributor in the preparation of competitive grants (DARPA, European commission, national programmes) awarded over US$20 million in total.

Founder, CeoLeaning Technologies Ltd Sep 2012 - PresentLeeds, United Kingdom And Amsterdam, The NetherlandsWe develop WebAssembly-based solutions to help businesses making the transition from native to modern Web Applications, and to develop high-performance, large-scale Web applications. We are a world leader in WebAssembly-based software development tools, and have been innovating in the WebAssembly space since 2012.Our end-user technologies for Java (CheerpJ) and Flash (CheerpX for Flash) give organisations a real alternative to rewriting existing applications to HTML5/JavaScript, or to discontinuing mission-critical internal applications. CheerpJ is used by hundreds of thousands of users in support of their Oracle Forms, E-Business Suite, Java Applet, and to access any kind of Java client component. Our core technologies for developers, Cheerp, CheerpJ and CheerpX, enable C++, Java and Linux native components and libraries to be integrated in web applications, unlocking the power of WebAssembly on the browser. Battle-tested on millions lines of code, and backed by enterprise-grade licensing, support, consulting, and training services, our technologies realise the vision of running any application on the Web Browser. -
Founder, DirectorDrs Software Jul 2015 - PresentLeeds, United KingdomWe are a specialist full-service software development firm specialised in high-performance web application development and legacy modernisation. As experts in WebAssembly, we provide development, modernisation and porting services for complex web applications. We employ a tight-knit, international team of highly driven individuals with very strong technical background. Our multidisciplinary team combines extensive experience in big data analytics and modelling, control and process engineering, and high performance web applications. We have a track record of working with world-class partners in the enterprise sector (Siemens Healthcare, Alpha Process Control, Leaning Technologies, IUVO) and in academic institutions (Boston University, Harvard University, Wyss Institute). -
Staff Engineer - RoboticsWyss Institute For Biologically Inspired Engineering At Harvard University Aug 2014 - Jul 2015Cambridge, MaStaff Engineer and Technical Project lead at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University.- Technical Lead for a project to develop a soft exosuit to assist walking in individuals with limited mobility. Soft exosuits are lightweight, active wearable garments that can assist the body in movements such as walking. Compared to rigid, powered exoskeleton approaches, exosuits can provide a partial, all-day assistance to the lower body without completely taking over the control of movement from the wearer.- Work with a team of staff engineers, apparel designers, clinical partners and entrepreneurs to translate concepts and prototypes developed within the laboratory to real medical devices that can increase the autonomy and mobility of individuals with gait impairments.- Support to the business development team by working on intellectual property in strict collaboration with the Office of Technology Development at Harvard, patent attorneys and researchers. -
Postdoctoral Research FellowHarvard University Apr 2013 - Jul 2014Greater Boston AreaResearch in soft wearable robots for gait assistance in Prof. Conor Walsh laboratory. Our laboratory pioneers the use of soft, garment-like structures to assist the body, as opposed to traditional rigid powered exoskeleton approaches. Our exosuits can provide assistance to the lower body reducing the metabolic cost of walking and the fatiguing of musculature. I lead the human-subject testing effort for multiple prototypes of these exosuits. Our prototypes have been tested on more than 30 subjects, including soldiers, military officers, physical therapists and other subjects, totaling more than 100 experimental sessions.I started and lead the technical development for the application of soft exosuits to gait rehabilitation in stroke patients. In collaboration with a colleague, I supervise a team including staff engineers, graduate students, physical therapists and clinical faculty collaborators. I also give support to the business development team by performing market analyses, IP landscaping and working on internal IP. I regularly participate to meetings with DARPA officials, clinical partners, other research teams and industry collaborators. I participate in the writing of grant proposals (DARPA, NIH, SOCOM and others) and had a key role in the preparation of a large-scale DARPA proposal which got funded for several million dollars. -
Visiting Research ScholarHarvard University Aug 2012 - Mar 2013Greater Boston AreaResearch fellowship under the supervision of Prof. Conor Walsh and Prof. RobertHowe. Development of control methods and human experimentation of soft activeexosuits, a new generation of wearable robots designed to assist human walkingand load carrying. -
Phd Candidate, BioroboticsScuola Superiore Sant'Anna Jan 2010 - Apr 2013Pisa, ItalyResearch and development in the field of wearable robotics for humanaugmentation and restoration (i.e. assistive/rehabilitation robotics), with afocus on physical human-robot interaction and human-robot cooperation. My work focused on three key aspects of wearable robots:- Physical human-robot interfaces: design and sensorization- Wearable sensors for gait analysis: design and development of sensors andalgorithms- Control of wearable robots for cooperationMy research in those fields resulted in 9 publications in internationaljournals, 15 publications in international conferences and 4 patents. -
Visiting Student, RoboticsWaseda University Aug 2009 - Dec 2009Tokyo, JapanWorked at the Biped group, lead by Prof. Takanishi. Development of humanoid robots, with a focus on high-level control and pattern-generation for gait kinematics.
