My primary responsibility was to stand up the company’s new image of Windows 11 on Citrix cloud in Azure. I was charged to capture all applications on the previous version (Windows 10) and ensure compatibility with Windows 11. If applications were not compatible, I was charged to find out what could make them compatible (via an upgrade) or replace them entirely with something that would be compatible.

I was brought into this hospital to properly guide and direct the Citrix environment to a level of compliance. The major hospital that primarily serves a very prominent theme park, had its staff overwhelmed with current day-to-day tasks and tickets.A comprehensive virtual apps & desktop assessment was done for the 40 thousand user environment to identify and prioritize components that needed immediate attention and to prepare the Citrix platform for upgrade. Detailed project planning with the networking, virtualization, windows, storage, and database team paramount in creating and coordinating production environment without interfering with the operational environment. Due to the fact that we were not allowed any downtime at a hospital of this size, it was imperative to execute component upgrades over specific times when the least number of employees would have access to the system. Procedures and policies were created based on project outcome, team members’ feedback, past experiences/issues, vendor documents and phone conversation, and compliance requirements. Bringing the customer up to date with the vendor’s latest software allowed the customer a security blanket knowing the compliance updates would cover the maintenance for the for the next five (5) years. Having the latest software code addressed many security loopholes, which were fixed in the new release of the software.

Architect for the current and future growth of the Citrix environments. The environment was on a quickly approaching end of life Citrix platform and needed to be migrated to Citrix’s next version. A framework was erected along with placement and configuration of essential Citrix components; storefront, delivery controllers, license server, PVS, SQL Databases, NetScaler MPX appliances, Test/Dev Farm, all on VMware hardware. Migrating Citrix to the next version entailed utilizing VMware, updating the VMShells, the VMware tools, the virtual machine and corresponding Windows updates.The environment had outgrown the Citrix NetScaler VPX 1000. The organization wanted to take advantage of Citrix NetScaler MPX 11500. I was tasked with ordering, racking, and stacking, configuring, and rerouting the traffic from the VPX NetScaler to the new MPX NetScalers.The organization wanted to take advantage of the MPX capabilities of Global Server Load Balancing for their multiple sites across the country, implement two-factor authentication and leverage the NetScaler’s to replace their Big IP solution for load balancing. I was responsible for setting up the framework and process for GSLB and setting corresponding polices to start migrating the companies load balancing efforts from the F5s to Citrix to consolidate core hardware and reduce cost.

The hospital had an obsolete Citrix Provisioning server environment. I introduced the newer version of the Provisioning platform and held a team meeting with the team manager and team leader to discuss upgrading the environment. I was able to demonstrate the new Citrix PVS versioning as well as replication with various vDisks in a sandbox environment to further showcase the idea. Once buy-in was received from management, I was assigned to the task of implementing the upgrade. I delegated tasks to team members to perform steps while ensuring infrastructure stability.
