Shari Kamimori is a design professional with over 35 years of experience in the architectural design field. She is President and founder of 3D Virtual Design Technology, Inc., a digital survey firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area providing 3D/2D as-built documentation using 3D Laser Scanning and Imaging technology for renovation and construction projects, servicing the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) and historic preservation industries. She is actively involved in historic preservation of building structures, serving as a Board Director for Napa County Landmarks (NCL), Education Committee member for California Preservation Foundation (CPF) and Technical Documentation Committee member for Association for Preservation Technology (APTI). She has published an article in LiDAR News, titled “3D Laser Scanning Technology – Key in Preserving Historic Structures After South Napa Earthquake”.With the use of 3D laser scanners, aerial and 3D photography, we capture the existing conditions and create reliable 3D/2D as-built documentation. This capture process is faster, safer and more accurate than most traditional methods and is a valuable tool for risk management and quality control throughout the construction process. We also use the 3D imaging technology to digitally preserve cultural heritage sites and historic buildings at risk of destruction and/or deterioration.
