Infrastructure Operations Manager
Responsible for the server provisioning program across all Facebook datacenters (DC) (> “x” million servers). Manage the work of 64 engineers who deliver the provisioning tooling and automation requirements for Facebook DC’s. Gather requirements by partnering with DC sustaining leads, DC site managers, engineers and engineering leads. To be successful in this role, it is necessary to understand the core provisioning architecture, processes and tooling (often down to a SQL, Database, API, thrift and Python level). • Prioritise and plan the engineering work with scale in mind; includes roadmap, architecture and engineering resource planning, writing program/project wiki's, project tracking & planning, task prioritization & tagging, critical path and milestone planning & tracking.• Report in person to infrastructure VP’s, Directors and Senior Managers on a frequent basis; keeping them informed about issues, blockers, backlog items and progress.• Built the business case and an alternative strategy using data in Tableau, Excel PowerPivot, Hive and Presto not to hire DC field engineers for the DC VP.• Built a monitoring and control dashboard during a hack event to give a snapshot of the DC health for the DC oncall teams.• Identified 146k servers of wasted capacity and built a usage alerting system for all FB teams that use server capacity.• Develop and maintain metrics such as KPI’s, SLA’s and overall statistics related to provisioning.• Train and onboard PM’s and Engineers in the provisioning space.• Owner and facilitator of two companywide global meetings (DC checkpoint & SEV review).• Enjoy getting “hands on” by digging into data via SQL and Python.
