I have been studying Civil Engineering for the past four year and I have enjoyed learning about the complexity of buildings, soil, and management. My favorite subject falls under Structural Analysis, because I excel at working with statics and trusses, so it is very enjoyable for me to work with what I'm good at. I've also enjoyed classes such as Geo-technical Engineering because it's interesting to learn about soil classifications, water volume, and other necessities for identifying the soil for future construction projects. For my past work experience, I've enjoyed getting to do hands-on work, such as traveling to various cities across Iowa to help with speed studies for the Iowa DOT. Another hands-on project I worked on was doing sidewalk inspections for the City of West Des Moines. I would walk around various suburbs in West Des Moines, inspect sidewalks for any faults (such as raised lips, large dips in the sidewalk, etc.), and I would put the data into a mapping program so that the data could be reached by my supervisors. I enjoy getting to work on projects that help me to understand how to apply my Civil Engineering education to my future career. I also like to learn about aspects of Civil Engineering that I didn't previously know about. Overall, I very much enjoy being a Civil Engineer student at Iowa State University, and I hope to advance my future knowledge so I can be the best Civil Engineer that I can be.
