Assistant Engineer to Westmeath National Roads Design Office, providing pavement assessment, design and consultancy for projects carried out in counties Westmeath, Longford, Leitrim, Monaghan and Louth to date.Primarily this has involved the procurement and assessment of structural and non-structural pavement testing for schemes requiring rehabilitation under the TII PAMS system. Developing pavement condition models by evaluating data from structural assessments such as Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), coring, DCP and GPR results and non-structural assessments such as SCRIM and RSP Profileometer (rut depths, super-elevation, crack measurement, longitudinal and transverse profile) etc. Supplementing this data by carrying out visual inspections on site and liaising with the Client, consultants and the TII. Carrying out pavement rehabilitation designs. Preparation of the Pavement Asset Repair and Renewal (PARR) reports. Preparation of the tender documents and detail design drawings. Running tender competitions and assessing tenders received. Using my background in pavement asset assessment and management I’ve also provided consultant advice to the engineers within other local authorities within our design region and have given training and CPD presentations on the assessment of pavement existing pavement conditions.

Chief Falling Weight Deflectometer analyst with responsibility for analysis and interpretation of FWD test results to determine existing pavement conditions, and reporting of same. This also involves analysis of traffic requirements and the design of new bituminous overlays to meet these or other requirements. Frequently carry out onsite testing and analysis, as well as coring and DCP analysis. Have been Involved in laboratory testing of bituminous materials and aggregates to EN and BS standards. Performed tests and analysis to determine the porosity of the existing porous asphalt on segments of the M50 and M1 before and after an attempted cleaning process. Frequently also organised and carried out traffic control operations as well as analysis and reporting of Griptester, RSP and SCRIM results. Recently carried out Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) analysis of a substantial proportion of the National Network using the Road Doctors Pro software on GPR data collected by PMS. Frequently carry out client liaisons, usually under role as FWD analyst and often involved in compiling data on behalf of many County Councils and public bodies
