Sean’s entrepreneurial spirit showed early in life. He was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and lived for time spent in the ocean. One day, while swimming out into the surf with a windup disposable camera, he took an image looking out of the barrel of a wave. That single image triggered the pursuit of surf photography and lead to images being published in magazines around the world and the creation of a small photography business. His second foray into small business was the founding of a mobile bicycle maintenance company. This originated from his competitive nature and love of sport, starting with his first triathlon in 2008. His achievements in this arena include winning his division at Ironman Arizona and competing at the Ironman World Championships, all while running his highly successful business. Ultimately, and initially by happenstance, Sean became involved in the coffee industry. In 2010, he got his first coffee job and like most, it was as a barista wearing a green apron. Then, after relocating to Seattle in 2013, he received an opportunity to work at a coffee roasting facility. Immediately, he fell in love with specialty coffee. Sean worked his way up to become COO where he oversaw a complete rebranding of the company which led to significant growth. His other responsibilities included: (1) overseeing expansion into a new facility, (2) hiring all staff, (3) establishing standard operating procedures and efficiencies in production, (4) sourcing and onboarding new coffees and products (as distributors and line extensions), and (5) personally designing all marketing material (including packaging). One of the most rewarding aspects of this job was traveling the world and documenting on camera the estates that the roastery would buy green coffee from. Using the array of skills he has developed from a decade working with coffee, Sean is now focused on helping other companies navigate the brand-building process and develop and implement a strategic plan to maneuver through the unique terrain of the current business landscape. He has a particular strength in quickly gaining a deep understanding of where the business/brand is and he can also see the big picture of where it is going. His creativity and competitive nature ensure that there is no stone left unturned. This ensures that the foundation of the business is resilient and establishes a decision making system that makes the tough questions every company encounters much easier to answer.
