My work at DLG primarily focused on Cloud rather than DevOps per se. Whilst I did help various projects and programmes with their DevOps direction and strategy, and did build the DevOps strategy for DLG; Cloud consumed 80% of my team's effort as a key enabler for new ways of working.My team were instrumental in building and evolving the Cloud Foundation platform that projects could use to unlock and enable cloud agility and innovation. Switching on a cloud account is the starting point, but a great many problems need to be solved, especially for regulated organisations. Support, security and compliance are probably the most critical.Other key deliveries:* I implemented an outsourcing transformation that saved DLG over a million pounds a year* Helped drive a licensing review that saved hundreds of thousands a year* Instrumental in setting up a Cloud Centre of Excellence

Principal for Solution Architecture Centre of ExcellenceApplication Management Security PrincipalTeam Lead for Reference Data portion of PSP2 project. Focused on Enterprise Integration portions as well as billing and Corporate Actions.Team Lead for Corporate Actions & UX in MSS portion of PSP2. Rewrote the core processing logic to handle thousands of transactions per second on a multi-million row event table.. Reworked the Scrip Lending & Borrowing system as well as assisting across the board on performance and accounting issues.Cool stuff- Set up the first ASP.NET MVC project for a bulk upload system. It could upload 100 instruments faster than the previous system could create 1.- Created a new TFS Process to align TFS with the JSE internal process.- Created an excel based Trade creator tool that was used in the T+3 project to simulate trades coming from the trading engine.- Drove out application security awareness and standards in the development team.- Gave seminars on application security, WCF, and MVC

I worked on the Transnet Freight Rail Human Capital Resources project, simulating the entire Transnet rail network and the various activities at yards and depots. Additionally, I worked on some custom controls for the Anglo Platinum Mine Optimisation Tool. I was also involved in helping complete the Kulula Departure Control System.Cool stuff- Created a multi-machine job execution system to run hundreds of processing jobs on a grid of commodity Windows machines.- Created a visual designer for mine operation placement, so a mine operation could be dragged and placed within a geological layer.- Gave seminars on application performance, WCF, and HTTP

I worked mainly at Spectramed, working on their system incorporating SBImage document imaging and K2 workflow. Due to limitations in those products we had to create an InfoCentre application which would make capturing document metadata more easily, and built numerous enhancements on K2's capabilities.Cool Stuff- Wrote the Info Centre document acquisition system which was used in several projects.- Managed to debug a critical issue with K2, and send the fix that K2 needed to make to their code to them before their own devs had figured it out. I did get into a little trouble for that because I reverse engineered what they were doing.

Systems Architect for the Oculus 8.0 product. Involved in creating and motivating the entire workflow back-end for the Oculus Imaging system. Primary developer for the visual workflow designers, the TCP/IP communication systems, and the ASP.NET front-end frameworks.Technical Lead on the Complete Workflow product.Dealt with clients directly and was known as a top trouble-shooter. Supported clients such as Coca-Cola Kenya, Financial Services Board, Sage Life, Clientele Life, South African Airways, Metal Industries Benefits Fund Administrators, and Tibbett & Brittan.Cool Stuff- Created a full graphical designer for the Ocuclus workflow system.- Architected and was lead implementor on the underlying Oculus Workflow engine.

Acted as a consultant, mainly around the Scala ERP system.Wrote customised Access and Excel reporting systems, as well as a C++ EDI and EFT system for Ericsson SA.Dealt with OLAP systems (mainly Proclarity).

Assisted in Bug fixes for the Profitability ERP system.Wrote the Job Costing module for Profitability.Dealt heavily with rock-solid SQL back-ends utilizing triggers and stored procedures to ensure data integrity.

Lead Developer on Workflow implementation at Coca-Cola and Clientele Life. Involved in managing client expectations, as well as handling first-step client relations, over and above development.
