About Sean Lee

At 19, I had a dream - a car company, from the ground up. A dream that everyone has called crazy, literally everyone.I wrote my business plan anyways and presented it to my college classroom of future entrepreneurs. When I was finished, I was asked to start my project over because I had missed an unsaid requirement that was obvious to everyone else in the room - this was supposed to be something we could do within the next few years. At the end of the semester, my professor (now Dean) convinced me to drop out - not because I did poorly, but because it was as obvious as red-on-white that I didn't belong there.I'm now 28 and I own my first business. A mission forward business, with a real impact and intent to do good. How did I get here? Where will I go? Those are the stories I'll tell.

  • The Home Depot
    Department Supervisor
The Home Depot May 2017 - Feb 2019
    Goleta, California
Full-time hourly manager at the Home Depot, specializing in merchandising operations. During my time there I supervised four departments - Hardware, Electrical, Plumbing, and Kitchen & Bath. I worked in a unique warehouse/big retail setting, and I was in charge of over 10,000 individual SKUs on a DTD basis - my top department grossing approximately $10 million annually at the time. That department was the Hardware Department, with the busiest foot traffic and highest volume in the store outside of Spring season - this also happened to be my longest stint. On top of basic stocking, cleaning, and customer service, I also managed my business DTD by analyzing sales numbers and trends in order to find new opportunities to drive business. I was also responsible for associate development and safety, as well managing department shrink. I was licensed on the Reach (Electric Forklift), OP (Order Picker), and both manual/driving Ballymore Electric Ladders. Hired in to be a supervisor, I was promoted fast and jumped from department to department as I identified opportunities, fixing each department, and leaving them on an upwards trend.
  • Blaze Pizza, Llc
    Shift Manager
Blaze Pizza, Llc Dec 2016 - Mar 2017
    Goleta, California
After a short lived stint with rival Pieology, Blaze Pizza hired me to be a full-time closing manager at their Isla Vista location. Located in UCSB’s infamous community, this was a very busy college town eatery that stayed open late. Working at Pieology confirmed for me that I did not enjoy working in a restaurant setting, however I took this job on nonetheless knowing I’d be good at it and to give myself more of a challenge in an uncomfortable environment. My responsibilities for the most part carried on from my previous job, except this time to Blaze’s company guidelines. I ran the night show, where we made most of our money and I took a big load off the store managers shoulder’s. However after four months of countless line-out-the-door late nights, my body and personal life took a hit and I knew it was time for a change. With my resignation in April 2017, I recommended three team members to be promoted. They all became Shift Managers as well as two other immediate promotions to fill the 5-day void I had left.
  • Pieology Pizzeria
    Shift Manager
    Pieology Pizzeria Aug 2016 - Dec 2016
    Goleta, California
Took this job on after Cherry Vapor Lounge closed down with short notice. As much as I wanted to find the right retail management job, I needed a job immediately to pay bills and so I signed up to join Pieology in opening their brand new restaurant in Goleta. Without prior restaurant experience, I was hired on as a part/time Team Member and promoted to Shift Manager in just a couple months. I learned how to prepare fresh ingredients, create custom pizzas and salads, as well as cooking with a fast fired oven. As a Shift Manager, I was responsible for placing orders, inventory, and managing labor. Very quickly I became the most reliable and knowledgeable shift manager at the store, and with my prior experience in management I was trusted to make the best calls in tough situations. Following a change in management, it became obvious that the new Store Manager could not see eye-to-eye with his Shift Managers therefore I resigned my position in December 2016 for better opportunities. This was a new and challenging experience for me, it was my first step into the restaurant industry and I was also given the opportunity to manage a bigger team than before.
  • Cherry Vapor Lounge
    General Manager
Cherry Vapor Lounge Mar 2015 - Jul 2016
    Santa Barbara, California
First paid job, started off part-time as a Sales Associate while attending college courses. Promoted to Assistant Manager within 4 months, and not soon after taking over as the General Manager. Learned a good deal about small retail business, acquiring specific skills in marketing and customer service. This job by far has provided the most growth. Retired my position as the company closed down following building issues with the landlord, I went down with the ship.
