• Used Bayesian model averaging to generate a consensus model of transcription factor-gene interactions from inferred networks for E. coli and yeast.• Implemented an automated segmentation algorithm for CT-imaged fracture samples to subsequentlygenerate 3D isosufaces for use in fracking studies.• Developed a library for quantitative analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance data by fitting known, relevant functions such that relative abundance of carbon 12 and 13 can be calculated.• Collaborated on an HPC-friendly pipeline to perform gene sequence assembly and analysis.

• Investigated the imposition of a realistic breathing profile on coupled, bidirectional, computational fluid dynamics/pharmacokinetic simulations in the upper respiratory tract.• Facilitated 3D isosurface generation of anatomies of interest (presently, the respiratory tract) through medical image data segmentation. Subsequently post-processed isosurfaces to ready them for particle uptake and deposition simulations. Actively engaged with colleagues in downstream computational fluid dynamic modeling. These simulations allow accurate prediction of particle deposition in tissues of interest. Toxicity levels and inter-patient differences (e.g., control vs. diseased) can then be determined.• Developed a pipeline to facilitate registration of serial 2D image sets via general purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs), vastly reducing computation time.• Coded a 3D mesh converter that retains facet color information among disparate data formats.

• Cultivated the framework for a time-varying model of the breathing rat pulmonary airways. Performed registrations among three-dimensional surfaces of the lungs generated from CT scans. Registrationimplemented with 3D animation software to achieve cast-level (high resolution) detail in each time-point surface (low resolution).• Registered liver histology to explore drug delivery by microspheres. Microsphere distribution compared to tumor location (inside vs. outside vs. surface). Process later parallelized using graphics processing units, vastly improving computation time.

Contributed to a project involving multi-scale geometric data representation of brain tissue histology. Wrote code to facilitate reconstruction of a set of serial 2D images into a 3D volume for comparative purposes. Various mice brains (wild type, wild type stressed, MECP2 mutant, MECP2 mutant stressed) compared to study the effects of Rett Syndrome on the brain.

Gained valuable experience in communication, marketing, business modeling, and technical development through this entrepreneurship/engineering capstone project. Students of multiple disciplines worked in teams to design and prototype their product, develop a go-to-market strategy, and participate in business plan competitions.

Set up laboratory materials, answered questions, clarified concepts, and assisted students in Dr. David Lin’s Bioinstrumentation course (BE 330), which focuses on principles of instrumentation applicable to bioengineering systems and experimental design for measurement systems.

Performed DNA extractions, amplification, and analysis on cherry tree DNA. Utilized meticulous pipetting, centrifuging, PCR (via thermal cycler, light cycler), and gel electrophoresis techniques. Compared electrophoresis results to spectrophotometer data to validate results.
