The Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation is pursuing the creation of a protected area called Thaidene Nene, which may become a National Park Reserve. Their goal is to protect the Land of the Ancestors (Thaidene Nene) in order to preserve their way of life and their inherent rights are indigenous peoples.

I began substitute teaching at the Lutsel K'e Dene School when I moved to Lutsel k'e in January. I have worked with all grade levels and practised with and chaperoned the basketball team. I can't imagine a better place to teach; this community is intimately connected to the land and students regularly do on-the-land activities. As a small school there is a great sense of community amongst the teachers and the students.

I coordinate the Promotion of and education about the Orange Drop program through school presentations, trade show exhibits and social media. I developed strong co-branding partnerships with the Ontario Science Centre and Harbourfront Centre. Our online community organically grew to 1,202 FB page likes and 1,056 twitter followers. I regularly had to balance our messaging to adapt to the politically charged and sensitive arena that Orange Drop existed in.

I help shape and spread messages about positive programs that help reduce product and energy waste in our lives. I work with all audiences - youth, students, teachers, businesses - at schools (primarly, secondary and post-secondary), trade-shows, lunch-and-learns, and on the web (twitter, facebook and youtube). I create original content, in a positive format, with a credible voice.

The Greater Vancouver Regional District

Supported youth in Schools across the GVRD to create and implement programs to make their schools more sustainable. I expanded the program from 5 schools to 22 schools, and supported programs ranging from solar power projects to community wide intergenerational education projects.

Inuvik, North West Territories

We collected, prepared and analyzed thousands of water and sediment samples from lakes and rivers across the Mackenzie Delta. Our goal was to collect baseline data, which would eventually be used to create a model of the bio-geo-hydro-dynamics of the entire Mackenzie Delta. The Delta is a very sensitive ecosystem, which has been and is more than ever under threat from oil and gas exploration and extraction.

West Cost Of Vancouver Island, British Colombia

We collected comparative data to determine if clear cutting of old growth forests exposed Marbled Murrelets, an endangered bird species, to greater predation. My team was responsible for finding and creating transects, conducting observational surveys, and collecting habitat data.

Chilliwack, British Columbia

I was trained to identify Marbled Murrelets in the field, and lead a team to try and observe them in the Elk Creek region of Chilliwack, B.C. We also collected habitat suitability data to determine if Murrelets could roost there.
