Changing outcomes for children, especially students in poverty and students of color, has been the focus of my 15 years of service in public schools. Informed by my experience as 2014 National Teacher of the Year, a year-long experience gathering feedback on Title II practices, designing a framework for systems of support, and delivering over 130 presentations (including a 2015 TED Talk Live), I am passionate about ensuring our education system works for all students. Since 2018, I’ve served as a School Leader at Pleasant Plains Elementary, a Title-1 supported school in Baltimore, MD. Central to my work at Pleasant Plains has been an intentional shift to distributive leadership, and equity-based and racial justice-focused professional learning for all staff. Our work has been celebrated as a district model and recognized by organizations such as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. I’m truly energized by my work supporting educators, school leaders, and stakeholders across the education ecosystem.
