I have 30 years of experience as a creative. I received a Bachelor’s of Music in 2006 from IPFW, where I studied percussion with Braham Dembar. I also studied jazz with Dr. James Farrell Vernon. During my time at IPFW, I was a featured vibraphone soloist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, a drum set soloist with the IPFW Jazz Ensemble, and a marimba soloist with the IPFW Community Orchestra and IPFW Percussion Ensemble. I’ve since delved into a fairly diverse range of musical styles around Fort Wayne and elsewhere, including jazz, blues, orchestral, rock, metal, hip-hop, Latin, Celtic, and musical theatre. In 2011, I relocated to China, and returned home to the US in June 2017. In China, I was the drummer of well-known indie rock band Doc Talk Shock. We signed with Modern Sky Records and released an album called “Lights of Detour” and performed at the Strawberry Music Festival in 2012. The album was engineered by Yang Haisong from the band PK14, who are considered the godfathers of modern Chinese indie rock. In 2016, Doc Talk Shock shortened its name to DOC, signed with D-Force Records, and released an album known as “Northern Electric Shadow” which ended up being mastered by Greg Calbi. We then went on a short tour of China, which culminated in two huge multimedia shows in Beijing and Shanghai that were known as “Limbic Man”. The album was nominated for “Best Rock Album” of the 2016 Abilu Awards, with the song “Entropy” (which I co-wrote) being nominated for “Best Rock Song”, and the band itself being nominated for “Best Rock Artist”. In October 2022, a couple films I worked on were featured in the Hobnobben film festival: “The Water’s Edge” (Re-recording Mixer) and “Saturnus” (Location Sound). In June 2022, I took part in the first-ever Audio Archiving Workshop hosted by Iron Mountain Entertainment Services in New Jersey. Some other projects that I have been involved with include being an audio engineer for WBOI's "Act of Listening" program, which was made possible through an AARP-funded grant. I also restored and digitized more than 100 cassette recordings for the Allen County Public Library's Genealogy department (the second-largest in the United States). In November 2022, I joined the Sweetwater marketing department as a product copywriter and, in late 2023, I was elected Vice-chair of the Indiana chapter of the Audio Engineering Society. As AES Indiana Vice-chair, I've helped arrange 3 successful events: a Sweetwater Studios hang, a visit to Earshot Audiopost in Indianapolis, and the world's first immersive audio recording of a 1905 Starr Piano.
