Geoscientist within Beam's (formerly Rovco) Geoscience team, responsible for interpreting geophysical data and to identify geohazards in the shallow subsurface. Typical work is focused on offshore engineering activities for Renewables. Typical geohazard assessments include (but not limited to) identification of boulders, shallow gas, shallow fluid flow, faults and mass transport deposits.Previously a researcher in Marine Geo-science at the University of Durham. I collaborated with electrical engineers at Newcastle University to develop and test a conductivity sensor that is able to directly measure suspended sediment concentrations within turbidity currents. This will help us understand how these turbidity currents erode and exchange sediment with the seabed, as well as understand their deposit types and geometry.I am passionate about the energy transition and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

I worked on a variety of projects including: - Using time-lapse surveys to reveal the patterns and processes of erosion by exceptionally large turbidity currents within the Congo Submarine Canyon. My key role was to quantify and categorising the erosion caused by two extremely large turbidity currents known as 'flushing' events'. These same flows were also responsible for the destruction of 3 subsea telecommunication cables linking South Africa with Europe.- I collaborated with electrical engineers at Newcastle University to develop and test a conductivity sensor that is able to directly measure suspended sediment concentrations within turbidity currents. This will help us understand how these turbidity currents erode and exchange sediment with the seabed, as well as understand their deposit types and geometry. We deployed this sensor in Bute Inlet, Canada, where the sensor successfully recorded the increase in sediment concentration as a result of a flank collapse and associated turbidity current.- Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) data acquisition of daily repeat bathymetric surveys at the head of Bute Inlet, British Columbia. These surveys ranged in depth from the extremely shallow ~3m to ~190m as we focussed on the delta lip. We also deployed a variety of sensors focussed on the delta lip, with the aim of monitoring the trigger/ initiation of a turbidity current.

I have been involved with GfGD since the start of my degree, organising events to raise awareness of how geologist play a role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, attending the annual GfGD conference in London, and raising money for the charity.In 2017, I ran the Coastal Hydro-geological Aid Project (CHAP's) nationally, working closely with Groundwater Relief, Geology for Global Development (GfGD) and other GfGD groups around the country. The project involved digitising <1700 hydro-geological borehole logs from PDF format onto an excel spreadsheet that could then be input onto a modelling software. Opposed to sending out user manuals to those interested, the GfGD team and I would train students on how to interpret these boreholes logs ourselves, and teach them the basics on what the different data represented. The data was intended to provide key information on the geology of the area, allowing hydro-geologists to gain access to water sources to alleviate some stress during the Rohingya Crisis.We taught ourselves how to digitise the borehole data before teaching other students with workshops in the style of informal lectures. Our new approach of workshops worked very well, digitising 200 boreholes within a 6 month period.
