In 2003 and then again in 2007, wildfires swept through Southern California destroying over 6,000 homes and damaging countless others. In the months that followed, many people found themselves unable to rebuild or return home. Many were under insured, some fell prey to scams or hired the wrong contractor, while others simply didn't know what to do, who to trust, or where to turn for help. In many cases problems like these could have been avoided had the survivors been given some direction on how to navigate the recovery process. As a result, I felt compelled to share my lifetime of restoration and recovery experience by creating a simple, easy to read recovery road-map, to give disaster survivors the tools they need to face and overcome the many challenges that present themselves in the aftermath of disaster events. What people don't realize is that once the first responders leave the scene of a disaster, the survivors are left to figure out their recovery on their own. For those who have lost their home or become displaced, this can be the beginning of a nightmare. So, In 2008 I embarked on a mission to create The Red Guide to Recovery - Resource Handbook for Disaster Survivors. The Red Guide to Recovery is designed specifically to walk disaster survivors step-by-step through the recovery process, while raising awareness of the many pitfalls that present themselves in the aftermath of disaster events. Mr. Scott is a second generation general building contractor who has been licensed in the State of California since 1986. His family’s fire and flood restoration and construction history dates back to 1937, where his father started his restoration business in Chicago, Illinois before moving to California in 1964. As President of the Corporation, Mr. Scott brings over 39 years of experience to serve the restoration and general construction industry. Mr. Scott also provides professional services relating to damage assessment, repair cost estimating, and construction consulting. Mr. Scott’s reputation and hands on experience in the field of restoration makes him one of the leading experts in the field today.

This company was created specifically to handle the investigation and analysis of property damage claims, particularly in regard to residential fire losses. I personally investigated the damages, assessed the scope of necessary repairs, and compiled detailed estimates of the costs to perform repairs. I worked closely with insurance adjusters and itemized every element of the work necessary to return damaged property to its original condition, thus ensuring an accurate estimate of the true cost of repairing, rebuilding, or replacing the damaged property. I also provided percipient and expert witness testimony to support my observations and conclusions. These services were available to clients in the support of initial claim submissions, claims disputes, appraisals, alternative dispute resolution, and litigation. My services were used extensively by Southern California fire survivors in both the Cedar Fire storm of 2003 and the Witch Creek Fire storm of 2007, which combined destroyed over 6,000 homes.
