The Discover Ashburton guide is produced by my wife and I on a non-profit basis to support the community in which we live. Primarily for visitors, the guide features the best places to eat, where to stay and activities and sights in and around Ashburton and Southern Dartmoor. A printed version of the guide is distributed via local businesses and attractions, and the website provides information for prospective visitors to the area.

As Technical Director I have overall responsibility for Grey Matter's systems infrastructure, a variety of commercial and internally developed systems and the team that manage and develop these systems. Grey Matter strives to maintain high standards of service to its customers and partners and this is made possible and supported by the systems we have in place.

I ran the technical team at Grey Matter at a time when developers made many software purchasing decisions and a high level of technical pre and post sales was expected. As the market changed the technical team transitioned to internal software development and I oversaw the development of our first web sites and bespoke internal system for sales, purchasing and product management.

As a developer at Clarion Software Inc. (later SoftVelocity) I developed a framework for standardising the semantics for database access for file based systems which was used in the development of file drivers (dBase, Paradox, Clarion, etc.) for the Clarion application development language. I also focused on debugging and optimising low level and memory management code for performance and reliability and developed cross-language development guides.
