I manage a team of 7 scientists and research associates to deliver genomics services to Moffitt faculty members. Our services include whole-exome and targeted DNA, sequencing, single-cell and bulk RNA-seq, NanoString nCounter Analysis, and Illumina and Affymetrix microarrays.

As a Staff Scientist I developed new Genomics Core services starting with Affymetrix, Exiqon, and Illumina array-based technologies and later Illumina-based next-generation sequencing technologies including RNA-seq, whole-exome sequencing, and ChIP-seq. My role was both at the bench on the high-performance compute cluster developing Linux-based pipelines for the demultiplexing and QC of the NGS data we generated.

As the first staff hire in the Microarray Core (now the Molecular Genomics Core), my primary role was to process and to perform QC functions for Affymetrix gene expression and SNP microarrays. I spent a significant portion of my time assisting with the development of QC metrics and performing differential expression analysis using tools the R package, BioConductor. This role led to a staff scientist appointment, which allowed me to work independently to build new array-based and eventually NGS Core services.

Performed laboratory research and analysis on LGL leukemia in the lab of Thomas Loughran, M.D. Utilized molecular techniques such as gene cloning, protein expression, purification, and microarray analysis for gene discovery and characterization projects.

Taught two sections per semester of General Microbiology Laboratory (MCB 3030L), an undergraduate course for biology majors at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.
