Press Office
Translator
I translated laws, declarations and other texts from the European Parliament from English and French into the Irish language.
Irish-Language Development Officer
I worked as an Irish-language Development Officer in a town in the west of Ireland. I ran an office every day where activities took place including an after-school homework club, a chess club for school children, an Irish-language conversation club (ciorcal comhrá), as well as meetings and classes.I was a member of the committee that organised and ran the Saint Patrick's day parade in Baile Locha Riach/Loughrea. We had to raise money locally and plan the timing, location, and participants in the parade.Other events that I helped to organise and run were a small concert in the town, a public talk about a famous poet from the area as well as organising publics meetings for a language plan for the area. These activities entailed promoting them by doing media interviews and by printing posters which I designed.
Proofreader
Proofreading the Official Journal of the European Union in Irish and English as well as other documents such as posters, guides, manuals, brochures and websites in Irish and English.
Public Relations Officer
I worked as Public Relations Officer of the Spiritan Asylum Services Initiative that assists asylum seekers and refugees and is the only organisation in Ireland that cares for survivors of torture. When I arrived the organisation had no communications strategy. When I first started contacting reporters they did not know anything about Spirasi but within six months, they were calling me looking for someone to come on the radio to speak about the asylum process in Ireland. I was responsible for communications, branding, marketing, web-editing and lobbying.
