As an Indigenous Man (Birri Gubba and Kabi Kabi) living in Sydney, I've been lucky enough to have been employed in a variety of sectors and positions, from labouring to senior management. This experience has helped reinforce my ability to relate to people from all walks of life, and makes me adaptable to any situation.I have a strong sense of social justice, which is why I have been working in the Indigenous Health Sector since 2001. Without health we have nothing. Through this work, and through studying a Masters of Public Health my journey has changed to look deeper at the underlying causes and effects of disadvantage.I am now moving closer to working in areas that have an influence on the social determinants of health in an Indigenous context, where people can have more control over their lives and in turn their own outcomes. This has led me to begin work in Indigenous Business, particularly helping to develop the Indigenous Social Enterprise sector through opportunities for skill and capacity development.
