Technical Architect (and sometimes Product Owner) for exp.o Transportation . Exp.o Transportation is working tirelessly to move Expeditors in-flight supply chain data to a new age. The stack orbits Java, Spring, Swing, JMS and Oracle. As Product Owner/Technical Architect my team reduced full integration coverage from 5+ days to overnight and deployments from overnight builds to CI/CD. Recent focus has been on building a monolith faster as well as teasing it apart. We can now deploy to Kubernetes and most modules in the multi-module monolith are decoupled applications that can start as Spring Boot micro-services.

Architect for exp.o Orders. Exp.o Orders moved Expeditors’s Customer Order management from COBOL to an extensible implementation founded on Domain Driven Design principles. The new stack includes Java, Spring, Kafka, Angular and something called the Axon Framework. Both RDBMS (DB2/Postgres) and Document Storage (Mongo) are in play. Migration was a multi-year project for a relatively large team (~16). Integration and automated testing expectations favored Kafka, JMS and REST. Challenges included Tsunami’s of change, data lineage, parallel processing and tooling that can both “keep the lights on” as well as provide feature rich administration for an entirely new data flow.

• Technical Lead and primary contributor for Expeditors' Scope of Service (SOS) application. SOS provides online statement of work exchange between internal teams and/or customers. Its feature set includes approval driven workflow managed across 3 different authentication schemes, integration with EDI’s existing tracking system, uploads, WYSIWYG editing and attribute level change tracking. • Pioneer and Technical Evangelist for mobile application development at Expeditors. Technical Lead and primary contributor for Expeditors’ first in-house mobile app• Created data point aggregator for development velocity metrics. Saved development efforts 15hrs per release by improving data integrity and removing need for duplicate entry.• Integrated statistical models (created in SAS Enteprise Miner) with Expeditors’ runtime environment. Opened millions in revenue opportunity previously lost to concerns of over-exposure or inflated bids. • Ported project tool called “EDI Projects” from Notes to DB2. Enabled EDI team (100+) to quickly identify delays in mapping development, extend “EDI Projects” as necessary and improve data integrity with workflow orchestration and advanced reporting.

Created technical interview exercises for java positions so hiring determination based on a consistent set of criteria. • Technical lead and mentor for “Upstream Tracking” application• Technical liason for Tradeflow application (an online suite of supply chain management applications); Technical lead for both on-site development and team in India. • Primary contributor and support representative for a number of internal applications.

• Lead Engineer for PAR3’s reporting system. Used Weblogic, PL/SQL, ETL, Java Stored Procedures, EJBs, RMI, JSPs, Servlets, JavaScript and Sitrakai’s JCChart to take reports from concept to web accessible same day with zero downtime. (Previous solution required several days of development plus an outage to deploy). • Lead Engineer for PAR3’s CorePAY (funds transfer) systems. Designed and implemented real time credit card processing for PAR3’s interactive messaging system. Used Java, XML and pattern matching over https to introduce a Commerce API; new implementation saved the company $160K/year by eliminating a costly fee/transaction pricing model.

• Technical liaison for the deployment and integration of business process models provisioned by Boeing’s Dynamic Enterprise Modeler (DEM). Models provided fingertip training and system access to the ERP system for Boeing’s Commercial Airplane Group (BCAG). Responsibilities included creating and managing deployment, optimizing business flows, coordination of unit and integration testing and engineering hot links to context sensitive help. • Configuration control specialist for Baan’s Enterprise Modeler (BEM). Decreased downtime for software loads by designing robust deployment procedures based on a solid understanding of the tool; received special recognition award for designing a library structure that would support multi-phase development in a single logistical company. • Resolved development issues threatening BEM version stability. Designed an access database and created scripts to address data concerns within the ERP system.

• Created computer setups based on customer specification. Benchmarked transfer time of binary mapping utility across LAN running MSClient vs. NWClient-- test results guided company wide implementation. • On site work with NT, TCP/IP and hardware issues earned Bit-By-Bit repeat contracts hitting $10,000.00 each time. • Created NT4.0 CMS proxy server to provide secure Internet and Mail access for Seattle store; also implemented system as a file server providing LAN fault tolerance for both MACs and PCs.

I fielded calls for Windows 95. Calls ranged from trouble installing a printer to trouble finding someone who was also excited about the release.
