Project Management, Analysis and Mechanical Design of post-harvest opportunities, equipment and system for Strawberry post-harvest applications. Quick turnaround of data analysis and new data testing provided dramatically increased understanding of cost, throughput, and required scale(s) of post harvest equipment lines in an industry with no existing economical post harvest solutions (fresh, ready to eat strawberries). Data and design based approach to supplement the fabrication based approach currently employed by the company and arrive at a better result with fewer prototypes at lower overall project cost and risk.Ultimately I met and exceeded the metrics and goals provided however there was a conflict of culture that led to a separation. I look back upon the substantial fabrication heavy experience I gained while working there as well as the people fondly.

At Celera I wore several hats, ranging from magnetic and mechanical design of our frameless motor kits to trade compliance and end to end project management. I typically spent about equal time on project management, mechanical and electrical design, quality and ISO-9001 related product management, and management of documentation and reaction for trade compliance. At the end of my position there I performed rapid iterative and optimized design of new motor projects using ANSYS Maxwell, in one case establishing a non-segmented design that equalled competitor segmented designs.

A particular emphasis was placed on efficient and torque dense machines for direct drive applications, though high speed applications were also explored with customers. Axial Flux designs primarily.

Provide original design services for epicyclic transmission shift system (hydraulic) and other components. Examine opportunities to compress stack length of inline assembly, increase application flexibility of unit, decrease cost and duration of manufacturing processes.

Performed part drawing translation into SolidWorks, with updates to drafting standards including generation of a standard template for company drawings to reduce confusion and drawing generation time. Suggested and implemented suggested or requested design updates to 3D parts, both simple and complicated, achieving improved manufacturability for lower costs and shorter lead times on components. Verified assembly components for proper mating design, with tolerance studies to verify overall assembly tolerances would be met by part designs. Provided alternate sourcing options for fabrication and sub-components. Worked autonomously with time tracking and achieved completion of set contract work in roughly half the hours predicted by original engineering estimates at a higher quality than requested, which saved the company a significant amount of project cost as well as reduced future costs and work.

Development of CVTs, PHEV powertrains, and general vehicle component integration into prototype and production design. Extensive mechanical design and component selection/implementation on pulley type CVTs. From start to finish, work with fabrication shops and in house resources to produce custom components at low cost, high speed, and beyond minimum acceptable quality for projects. Generation of unique and patentable IP for new electric motor and vehicle transmission technologies, specifically in CVTs and hybrid vehicle optimized transmissions. Modification of existing production CVT for customer with new and unique applications, design and setup of testing dynomometer for said CVT, and final design for prototype delivery to customer. Particular focus on medium and heavy duty CVTs of 700+Nm and 350+kW capacities, which do not currently exist in market.
