About Sean Fountain

Innovative and uniquely experienced Mechanical/Electromagnetic Engineer ready to combine established technical guidelines with unique methods to create customized solutions. Adept at developing solutions for each client's unique needs.I have a particular experiential focus on rotating machines and FEA+Optimization methods for generating the best possible result in the shortest timeframe.I don't think anyone embodies the concept of 'continuous improvement' more than I do. If there isn't a real incentive to improve an existing product, then we'll improve on the next product, every time, whenever feasible. Sometimes improvement cannot be achieved until a product has been in customer's hands for some time across many production cycles. Often the improvement is in manufacturing processes or in design for manufacturability. My greatest issue is the desire to always improve making it hard to establish a stopping point. I've learned to do so, but it is somewhere that team members help me manage as well. I'm also insatiably curious which means I like to talk and listen a lot about just about any subject, which can lead to a love or hate impression of me and it's something I strive to manage for better team integration.

Listed skills include Mechanical Engineering, Electric Vehicles, Engineering, Powertrain, and 45 others.

Elverta, Ca

Engineering Consultancy and Contracting Services;Concept to Completion design services, as well as part/assembly/system design review and tolerancing, resulting in lower costs over the run of a project and quicker time to prototype/market. GD&T for function and manufacturing eliminating costly errors in tolerance stacking and decreasing costs by maximizing speed of manufacture through appropriate tolerances.Rapid and accurate CAD and simulation of parts and assemblies via: Autodesk Inventor;Dassault Systems Solidworks;Providing superior communication and documentation to improve workflow speed and quality at lower cost. Hourly and per-job basis contracting.

Mechanical Engineer

Davis, California, United States

Project Management, Analysis and Mechanical Design of post-harvest opportunities, equipment and system for Strawberry post-harvest applications. Quick turnaround of data analysis and new data testing provided dramatically increased understanding of cost, throughput, and required scale(s) of post harvest equipment lines in an industry with no existing economical post harvest solutions (fresh, ready to eat strawberries). Data and design based approach to supplement the fabrication based approach currently employed by the company and arrive at a better result with fewer prototypes at lower overall project cost and risk.Ultimately I met and exceeded the metrics and goals provided however there was a conflict of culture that led to a separation. I look back upon the substantial fabrication heavy experience I gained while working there as well as the people fondly.

Jul 2021 - Nov 2021

Product Engineer - Motors

Rocklin, Ca

At Celera I wore several hats, ranging from magnetic and mechanical design of our frameless motor kits to trade compliance and end to end project management. I typically spent about equal time on project management, mechanical and electrical design, quality and ISO-9001 related product management, and management of documentation and reaction for trade compliance. At the end of my position there I performed rapid iterative and optimized design of new motor projects using ANSYS Maxwell, in one case establishing a non-segmented design that equalled competitor segmented designs.

Consulting Engineer

San Jose, Ca

Performed part drawing translation into SolidWorks, with updates to drafting standards including generation of a standard template for company drawings to reduce confusion and drawing generation time. Suggested and implemented suggested or requested design updates to 3D parts, both simple and complicated, achieving improved manufacturability for lower costs and shorter lead times on components. Verified assembly components for proper mating design, with tolerance studies to verify overall assembly tolerances would be met by part designs. Provided alternate sourcing options for fabrication and sub-components. Worked autonomously with time tracking and achieved completion of set contract work in roughly half the hours predicted by original engineering estimates at a higher quality than requested, which saved the company a significant amount of project cost as well as reduced future costs and work.
