Sean is a highly experienced Partner and External Lead for Data. He is recognised as a “leading individual” by Legal 500 for advice to commercial organisations on strategic and complex data, IT, commercial, intellectual property and media issues. He advises many clients within the public and private sectors on a wide range of data protection andconfidentiality issues, including insurers and insurance related bodies, data providers, IT suppliers, local authorities, NHS bodies, universities, housing associations and police authoritiesHis track record also includes one the UK’s largest ever data projects - a successful collaboration between our client, the MIB, and the DVLA – where he advised on the complex data and IT elements of MyLicence (including negotiation of the contractual documentation), a revolutionary data sharing scheme, endorsed by HM Government, the DfT, the ABI, and wider insurance industry to combat insurance fraud.He has substantial experience of advising on such issues, which includes: - Advising upon the ethical commercialisation of data, database use and use of strategic data on an international scale- Advising on the development of data sharing arrangements (e.g. advising upon data protection issues relating to the Infected Blood Inquiry)- Advising on dataflow frameworks and international data transfers (particularly post-Schrems II and post-Brexit)- Advising a major international humanitarian aid charity on data protection issues relating to the tracing and reunification of displaced persons due to international conflicts- Advising a representative of the insurance industry in relation to the requirements of the Fair Processing Notices set out in all insurance policies- Advising on the operation and use of various major databases ranging from CUE to the MID to IFB (including data protection compliance and terms of use)- Advising upon the £multimillion procurement of a police force’s content management system- Assisting with GDPR audits for many high-profile public and private sector organisations, ranging from data use and legal processing to the assessment of supplier agreements, data sharing risk, contractual and privacy impact- Acting on behalf of Peel Ports Group in relation to the procurement of works and services for £350 million Liverpool 2 Project
