Ever since I can remember, I loved fighter jets. It’s very possible that the movie Top Gun had something to do with it. That love of airplanes would eventually lead me to Air Force Academy where I had big plans to become a fighter pilot. Unfortunately, bad eyesight meant that flying was not in the cards for me. Thankfully, the Academy was also an outstanding engineering school with a focus on developing leaders, not just pilots. This would set me up for a career as a technical leader within the Air Force, the National Reconnaissance Office, and eventually the Space Force. While I never did end up working on those fighter jets I loved as a kid, I got to do something even better in acquiring, developing, operating, and launching space systems in support of our country and those defending it from harm.
