SOLID has been a passion of mine since 2005. It's a structural, infrastructure, BIM and specialist design consultancy with offices based in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.I have an instinctive feel for construction having been born into a family of construction business owners. For over forty years my father has run his own ground works business and this where I first learned to read architects’ drawings and perform take-off calculations, at the age of 16.I graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in Civil Engineering. I gained valuable further contractor experience early on, working with Moss Construction (Southern) Ltd on the very first phase of the Oxford Business Park development. After spells with J C Sturrock Consulting Engineers in Chipping Norton and then Gifford in Witney, I formed SOLID Structures & Infrastructure Consulting Engineers.At JC Sturrock, I gained a firm grounding in structural design and developed a keen interest in historic buildings and traditional building construction. At Gifford, I gained experience in country houses, commercial offices, mixed use developments, university student accommodation, schools, hospitals, laboratories, industrial buildings and process plants.Since forming SOLID, I have built the practice steadily and have undertaken projects that range from roof jacking of a Grade II Listed Building to contractor design on the Olympic Athletes Village. A number of niche areas of expertise have also been developed which include historic buildings, natural stone staircases, stone façade engineering and traditional carpentry green oak framed buildings.Each project is undertaken with the same energy to see it through to a successful completion.I've enjoyed co-presenting a webinar at the Institution of Civil Engineers on Digital infrastructure – unlocking the true value in civil engineering. I've also enjoyed being part of a focus group on Leadership training at the Institution of Structural Engineers.In September 2020 SOLID acquired Howes Atkinson Crowder (HAC). This is a fantastic opportunity for SOLID Structures & Infrastructure as it strengthens our expertise, particularly in large civil works and adds a strategic location to our regional office network.
