Coral Reef Research Unit

General lab assistant. Roles include daily monitoring of tank pH, nutrient levels, temperature and salinity within all experimental and holding coral reef tanks.Responsible for general lab maintenance and upkeep, and feeding of all housed reef fish.Collaboration with masters and PhD students has provided additional experience and knowledge of coral reef research, such as the impacts of light intensity and temperature on coral calcification and ecological fitness.Experimented with various methods of nurturing and growing coral fragments of various species for a number of research projects.

The Wakatobi National Marine Park, Indonesia

A four week research placement based on Hoga Island, Wakatobi National Marine Park, Indonesia which primarily focused on tropical marine biodiversity on reef systems. Fundamental roles included regular underwater monitoring of coral cover, fish and invertebrate diversity between different reef sites. Lead a small project team regarding the general ecology of Cleaner Wrasse on the reef crest, ascertaining behavioural and external environmental data. Various samples and datasets were collected throughout the expedition, aiming to extend biological knowledge within the Wakatobi Marine Park.
