I managed the 90+ staff of reporters, editors and multimedia specialists in the newsrooms of NJ.com (Star-Ledger) and LehighValleyLive.com for NJ Advance Media and was responsible for leading our success in breaking news and award-winning enterprise reporting. * I directed local, political and enterprise coverage across the state, focusing on stories that mattered to our New Jersey audience.*I tore up the playbook that rewarded staff on the basis of individual traffic goals. I slashed the number of daily posts and empowered managers to focus on a goal of quality stories that mattered. The strategy was a huge success, in terms of journalism, staff morale and newsroom goals.* I initiated an ambitious plan to experiment with new forms of storytelling, combining reporters from different teams to brainstorm and launch a series of engaging and innovative reports.* I created a special team to focus on #MeToo stories in the state, leading to a series of exclusives that brought accountability to state and state-funded organizations.* I helped launch a subscriber-only cannabis vertical, which led to our successful NJ Cannabis Insider events strategy.* I diversified the newsroom and presided over two years of traffic and revenue growth.

As leader of the social media news-gathering team that served all the NBC News platforms:* I managed editors who flagged breaking and viral bubbling stories for NBC News, giving network competitive edge.* I developed best practices and training for the network on gathering & verifying user-generated media. * I launched content on new platforms such as Snapchat and LINE, expanding network’s footprint and bolstering traffic.* I worked with digital video producers, acquiring viral videos for social distribution, bolstering traffic.* I led negotiations on behalf of NBC News with third-party vendors providing social news-gathering tools.

I ran the NBC News Home Page (previously msnbc.com home page), managed the programming team as well as reporters/editors in eight time zones. Led digital coverage of the 2008 election cycle. * Introduced metric tools that helped shape decision-making and increase home-page traffic.* Launched mobile application and managed relationships with partner sites, bolstering page views and ubiquity of content.* Developed cutting-edge home page formats, including live video and Twitter streams.* Led the digital coverage of the 2008 General Election, leading to best-ever 2-day traffic day in site’s history.* Managed year-long award-winning “Elkhart Project,” which told story of the Great Recession by focusing on one hard-hit town.* Recruited and mentored top-level editors and writers for political and general news coverage.

Helped lead international coverage on msnbc.com, notably of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, working closely with NBC News staff and freelance reporters. Launched 2 major reporting projects -- Islam in Europe and Frontier: Europe -- plus blogs for NBC News’ international staff, World Blog and Behind the Wall (China). Also reported from the U.N., Cuba and Mexico.

I led the copy desk at Bridge News, which was previously known as Knight-Ridder Financial News, assigning and editing stories on the financial markets and the economy, domestic and international.
