Mixing Board is a community of brand and communications leaders that share knowledge with each other and organizations that can benefit from accessing members’ expertise, experience and mentorship.

As part of or as a complement to Mixing Board, I engage in select consulting or advisory engagements with organizations approaching or in the midst of important inflection points. This work ranges from being a sounding board for advice in key moments to deeper work where I employ the methodologies that we developed at Pramana to create organizational alignment, shape (or reshape) narratives, develop proactive communications strategies and design comms/marketing org structures, accordingly. The Pramana Collective partnered with the likes of Alibaba, Airbnb, Awesomeness, Color, Comcast, Conde Nast, Dreamworks, Dropbox, Fidelity, Greylock Partners, Grammarly, Lightspeed Ventures, Medium, Nickelodeon, Pandora, Playboy, San Francisco 49ers, Sesame Street, Slack, Virgin Hyperloop, Webflow, and about 150 other organizations at every stage and across dozens of domains. Brilliant team members have gone on to work in amazing leadership roles at Accel, Lightspeed Ventures, Lowercase Capital, All Raise, Square, Slack, Playboy, the Bloomberg presidential campaign, Affirm, the ACLU, DuckDuckGo, Pinterest and so on. Among these various projects, I played a quasi-internal role with Slack, Greylock, and Pandora as these respective organizations either built out or evolved their communications functions. The Pramana methodology and approach lives on in work where Pramanians come together to consult on projects via Mixing Board.

I was asked to convene a handful of top communications, marketing and product experts for a 'sprint' to help the Obama White House remake its approach to digital communications from both structural and strategic standpoints in order to better communicate directly to its constituencies. Our teams followed up with the White House to support implementation and to provide new ideas through the end of the administration.

Built Twitter's comms team and played a leading role in the development of the company's marketing, public affairs and government relations functions. Led communications around all product changes, Twitter's launch and growth of its advertising products, enhancements in service stability and international expansion. Coordinated broad consumer media campaigns that included appearing on Conan O'Brien, NPR's Fresh Air, and Good Morning America. Targeted vertical efforts to focus on major areas of interest on Twitter, including coverage in Sports Illustrated, Variety and Politico. Oversaw public policy and public affairs initiatives and planned events such as President Obama holding a Twitter Townhall at the White House.

463 was the first firm to bridge the divide between Washington and Silicon Valley.463 worked with the likes of Cisco, Twitter, Facebook, Skype, Sun Microsystems, AMD, Nokia, Consumer Electronics Association, Disney, Fox, VeriSign and TechNet before a fellow co-founder later evolved the firm into Vrge Strategies.

While leading some of the agency's largest client teams that spanned from consumer to enterprise, I helped manage the post-acquisition transition from Applied Communications.

I left Listen.com to broaden my experience and work on the big enterprise clients that Applied teamed with. Two months after starting, I led the win of the VeriSign account and led that account until starting 463 Communications. Applied had some significant management changes and client shifts in 2003 before it was bought by Next Fifteen (which also owned Bite Communications). During this period, I was one of two vice presidents who helped keep the ship afloat and keep the rest of the team onboard.

After the experience at Listen, I didn't reasonably think that I would have another ride that was quite so crazy. Until Twitter.I was one of the first 25 employees and joined pre-launch. We quickly became one of the and most respected companies of the era as we articulated the future of the Internet and music and also served as a model for a well-run and civically thoughtful dot com. Having more than $140 million in funding and the investments of all five major labels also helped. I lead all communications efforts at Listen, including consumer and tech PR, public affairs and events. Unfortunately, after Napster disrupted us and dot com bubble burst, these efforts also included managing communications around four rounds of layoffs.

After working on a 1996 shareholder litigation campaign that impacted the tech industry while at PBN, I knew that tech needed to formalize its efforts to better and proactively manage policy matters. I began working with some of the people who would later found TechNet, the industry's first CEO/VC-led policy and political organization.To create additional opportunities, I joined Alexander -- which was the top tech PR agency in the business. There, I started and and lead the first technology policy capability in the Valley. I was able to launch TechNet with a team and ran the group's communications for its first two years.

After working on a political campaign in Lithuania and my stint in the governor's office, PBN was an oddly perfect fit of California politics and public affairs efforts in the former Soviet Union. At PBN, I worked on a variety of statewide political campaigns, crisis communications efforts for major consumer businesses and with clients leading transformations in Russia and the Ukraine.

The best possible communications education a still-forming young adult could possibly get. I got to work with some of the smartest, most generous professionals I've ever met -- folks who not only wanted to teach me but also wanted get my opinion.I also learned that partisan politics wasn't for me and made a fairly rash (but ultimately wise) decision to leave the job for Lithuania three weeks after submitting my name and experience to a non-profit.
