About Sean Hawkey
I'm returning to community-based field work in Latin America - after a photojournalism career spanning 14 years and 50 or so countries - and I'm focusing specifically on food forest nursery management and community-driven reforestation, mainly with indigenous communities. This is a big change for me, and it is primarily motivated by a desire to do something practical on climate change instead of simply telling stories about it.I specialised in covering the climate crisis and migration, as well as food security and other development and humanitarian issues, and I'm combining this experience with my training in Wood Science / Forestry, and a masters in Rural Development. Putting all my energy into practical solutions to climate change is a natural progression in my work, and a very satisfying one.
