About Sean Macniven

Sean is the global lead for research for SAP's product support organisation and chief strategic architect, with 18 years of experience at SAP and as an independent consultant to organisations and government (including the European Commission). He is also a recipient of the prestigious Hasso Plattner Founder's Award at SAP SE, the company's highest innovation award. Among the topics he leads, he is the chief architect of the support organisation’s strategy of minimising effort for employees and customers through the automation of insights and the digital augmentation of knowledge workers (intelligent automation | hyper-automation). Subtopics of expertise include designing adaptive systems; gamification; measurement; research design; communications and PR impact, and social influence in online environments. Furthermore, as the global lead for organisational research, Sean partners with leading international universities to develop robust empirical measures for impact, and has introduced and is currently standardising the use of randomized control trials for all major projects and objectives. He is developing a living laboratory for the dedicated scientific study of user activities within the system, fully compliant with GDPR and IT security requirements. Sean is the ideator, chief architect and co-business lead for a novel approach to the digital augmentation of knowledge workers, the "Integrated Support Environment (ISE)". The ISE is effectively a smart browser that employs choice architecture, and persuasive and cybernetic design, to automate repetitive tasks, and augment support staff with relevant insights in their work, learning from those interactions, a dynamic and adaptive platform that brings the future of work to knowledge workers today. Sean is an honorary professor of the GCU Glasgow School of Business for Society, a member of the GSBS Industry Advisory Group, and a Visiting Professor at Leeds Beckett University.
