Running a series of events raising money for Kidney Research. The reason:In July 2012 one of our group – Angelo – was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. After several years of being undiagnosed he was faced with some life changing realities.For those of you who aren’t in the CKD loop here are some facts you probably didn’t know – be prepared to be shocked!Kidney disease can affect people of any age from a young child or teenager right through to adults and the elderly.The only two medical treatments currently available for kidney failure are; dialysis where the patient has to be connected to a dialysis machine for up to several hours a day several days a week unable to get up and move around; or transplantation, for which there is a huge shortage of organs.A transplant is not for life and only lasts on average 10-15 years.In the UK 90 per cent of people on the organ transplant list are waiting for a kidney – that’s approximately 7,000 patients.
