Analyzed ENMAX's portfolio dispatch strategy, from hourly dispatch optimization to potential impact on forward prices due to spot price compression, and found a way to make an extra $10 million each year

- Created a production SAS process that forecasts all of ENMAX’s residential and small commercial power customers’ hourly power consumption. Significantly improved the forecast accuracy with a combination of multiple regression and a proprietary trend adjustment. Mean absolute percent error (MAPE) is now below 3% on an hourly basis, every month. - Similar to the above, created a production SAS and Python processes for forecasting ENMAX’s natural gas customer volumes, and ENMAX’s large customer volumes using multiple regression plus trend adjustment. - Created a Monte Carlo price forecast of short- and long-term hourly power prices. This bottom-up model creates forecasts for all power supply sources, as well as demand, culminating in a supply surplus estimate and price distribution. The forecast was very accurate in 2017 and early 2018, helping the term traders to make millions in trading profits. - Created a complex SAS algorithm that analyzes every historical hour—and the next 12 hours—and determines the optimal Real Time dispatch strategy and position. It also simulates a marginal cost dispatch strategy, against which the Real Time Traders are measured. This process uses in-memory hash tables to analyze millions of records in only a few seconds. - As a senior member of the unregulated wholesale forecasting group at ENMAX, collaborate to produce ENMAX’s official 15-year power and gas price forecast document.- Analyze historical gas and power consumption growth to determine weather-adjusted, endogenous load growth. - Manage a production SAS process that forecasts ENMAX’s plant dispatch and commodity margin using forward power and gas prices, and plant marginal costs. - Perform many high-quality ad hoc analysis tasks as required.
