My current position is a Senior Weapons System Integration Engineer embedded within the Weapons Integration team in QinetiQ’s Air & Space Division at Boscombe Down. QinetiQ conduct military aircraft test and evaluation activities under the Ministry of Defence-QinetiQ Long Term Partnering Agreement (LTPA). Due to the nature of the LTPA contract I am only able to offer advice and cannot provide ‘as low as reasonably practicable’ (ALARP) statements.• Responsible for the successful delivery of all appointed Weapons Integration projects within budget and to contract.• Deliver all appointed projects on or ahead of approved baseline schedule, reporting through Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements Management System (DOORS).• To liaise with Defence Equipment and Support Project Teams and Front Line Commands to meet procurement objectives.• To conduct independent technical evaluations of Typhoon armament carriage and installation systems, armament control systems and weapons, highlighting safety issues ensuring they are safe to operate and maintain.• To provide expert advice to support Release to Service recommendations, clearances with limited evidence and operational emergency clearances.• To provide operational context to ensure new capabilities are correctly evaluated and that safety, performance or documentation deficiencies are identified.• Compile complex technical reports, based on HFE.• Act as an effective communication conduit between platform PT and design organisations ensuring project timelines are realistic and achievable.

Manage all aspects of quality assurance and explosive safety within an Explosive Storage Area (ESA).• Responsible for the management of a team of 25 weapons technicians including annual performance appraisals and management of those under performance review.• Responsible for the safe storage and processing of ordnance, munitions and explosives in accordance with Ministry of Defence explosives regulations.• Compiled instructional specifications for the maintenance and preparation of explosive components fitted to aircraft in accordance with airworthiness processes.• Acted as a focal point for all Health and Safety related matters, including the production and compilation of risk assessments in accordance with Management of Health and Safety in Defence protocol.• Coordinated major incident training including participation with airfield and local emergency services. Advised on matters relating to Quality Assurance (QA) in accordance with ISO 9001, including the coordination and review of Continuous Improvement processes. Carried out QA inspections against ISO 9001 across an aviation engineering environment.• Managed ESA QA audit program, investigating and compiling reports on quality assurance failures, ensuring processes and tools for the reporting and analysis of errors and near misses would be culturally adopted by ESA personnel.• Performed maintenance error investigations including 2 major incidents where unauthorised materials (Hazard Division 1.1, High Explosive Mass Fragmentation) were transported in an unauthorised vehicle to an unlicensed facility. The outcome of this investigation led to increased supervision and procedural changes.

Carried out the duties of a Tornado and Typhoon Aircraft Weapons Instructor which included:• Delivering instruction, testing and assessment of personnel carrying out weapon loading and preparation activities.• Delivering instruction, testing and assessment of personnel carrying out Aircraft Assisted Escape Systems (AAES) and Crew Escape activities.• Developed and implemented a practical assessment environment to facilitate training on current weapon systems, which streamlined the training experience and maximized the usage of training assets.• Drafted and reviewed Instructional specifications which have been implemented across the Typhoon fleet and used to assess Royal Saudi Air Force students carrying out ML 1 tasks.• Supervision and training of personnel carrying out explosive lifting operations.• Data entry on bespoke computer database systems.• Briefing senior officers and foreign defence attachés on the weapon systems currently utilised on Typhoon aircraft.

2007 - 2004 1st line Aircraft Technician / Supervisor. • Supervised and controlled aircraft fuel, high pressure hydraulic and gaseous system replenishments, ensuring all H&S regulations were adhered to.• Carried out removal and installation AAES IAW current procedures and Regulatory Articles, including stage and independent checks, gauging and testing.• Use of manuals and technical publications for fault diagnosis and rectification.• Calibration and control of precision tools and equipment. • Supervised and controlled explosive loading operations using a variety of mobile mechanical lifting systems.• Carried out the maintenance, inspection, removal and refitting of weapon role equipment.
