Profile bio

About Sean Hoban

Currently I design, program and evaluate methods for use by conservation biologists, especially at the interface of genetics and ecology. I work to translate empirical and theoretical work in conservation and ecology for management of wild and captive populations. For example I developed a software to help biologists plan conservation genetics studies and predict the outcome of restoration or management actions. In addition, I use genetic and ecological data to understand the impacts of fragmentation and population size changes on genetic structure, demography and viability of natural populations. Lastly I work to guide collections for conservation seed banks, and other emerging conservation issues.Prior to my current position, I spent five years working on my PhD in population genetics and forest ecology, and three years of postdoctoral work in France and Italy. My applied interests include endangered species conservation, natural resource management, and sustainable development. My theoretical and research interests include pollen and seed dispersal, invasive species, and metapopulations.Specialties: Computer programming (mainly java), command-line, software designLong-term project planning. Theoretical and applied genetics, genetic data analysis and interpretation, model constructionWriting reports, presenting to diverse audiencesTeaching at the university level

Listed skills include Genetics, Science, Data Analysis, Research, and 15 others.
