I'm a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley in the Center for the Science of Psychedelics. My research is about how the brain generates our experience of the world.In my postdoctoral research, I combine pharmacology, neuroimaging, psychophysics, and computational methods. I'm currently conducting studies involving multiple sensory modalities and drug treatments to better understand the different roles feedforward and feedback sensory cortical pathways play in perception. My PhD research examined how the brain selects categories of objects to be the focus of attention, and how the neural processes of attention maintain visual information so that it can guide behavior. I used machine learning methods to analyze EEG data from human participants performing a visual attention task and viewing natural object images. My experiments showed that a cascade of attention orienting processes originating in frontal control regions of the brain induce stable attentional states in object-selective visual areas to extract just the incoming visual information that belongs to task-relevant visual objects.
