Sean Norton is an adventure fanatic, Explorers club fellow, and inventor who grew up south of Houston near NASA's Johnson Space Center. Having astronauts in the local community opened the horizon for Sean where anything is possible and the sky is hardly a limit. Sean began a working career at NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Training Facility as a Rescue and Safety diver working extensively with the NASA EMU and Russian Orlan space suits during the early construction of the International Space Station (ISS). This was followed by a change of career into the practice of medicine. Sean quickly rose to the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care as a Paramedic and leader with the Clear Lake Emergency Medical Corps. In 2002, Sean found new opportunity with Austin/Travis County EMS Special Operations Rescue team where he remained until retirement. Retirement was short lived and new adventures began. Sean is proficient in high and low angle technical rescue, cave and confined space rescue, industrial rescue, wilderness rescue as well as Urban search and rescue. He is a member of FEMA's Texas Task Force One USAR team as a Water Rescue specialist. In 2014, Sean received the prestigious Higgins and Langley award for swift water rescue excellence, the highest award for water rescue issued by NASAR. Sean has an extensive background in all types of water rescue including open water, swift water, and SCUBA. Sean was involved with the world record setting Red Bull Stratos program as a search and rescue consultant as well as leading one of the field recovery teams on all manned flights, this was followed closely with the current record holding STRATEX program in which Alan Eustace completed a historical parachute jump from 135,898 feet. Sean is also a motor-sports fan and is an FIA qualified rescuer at the Circuit of the Americas during high profile events such as Formula One and Moto GP. Sean is always ready for the next adventure, just send the invitation!

Search And Rescue ParamedicStratex 2013 - Nov 2014RoswellOn October 24, 2014, Alan Eustace achieved the highest parachute jump in history, jumping from 135,890 feet and falling for 15 minutes. He plummeted to earth at speeds reaching 822 miles per hour, setting off a small sonic boom heard by people on the ground. StratEx is short for Stratospheric Explorer. The StratEx program goal was to develop a self-contained spacesuit and recovery system that would allow manned exploration of the stratosphere above 100,000 feet. Such a system has wide-ranging applications for; the study of the science of the stratosphere, development of means for spaceship crew egress, the study of dynamics of bodies at Mach 1, new high altitude aircraft suits, and setting of records for space diving, sailplaning and ballooning. StratEx flew using a scientific balloon, and is capable of being used with different kinds of vehicles other than balloons, such as stratospheric aircraft.
