Bike & Build engages young adults in service-oriented cycling trips to raise awareness for the affordable housing cause. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that fosters a sustained connection to community. We advocate for the need for affordable housing in thousands of communities across the country.- Manage a portfolio of 30 volunteer cyclists engaged in peer to peer fundraising strategies to ensure team goals are met. -Arranged for local media outlets to cover the work we were doing in their community.- Manage the daily operations of 30 cyclists biking across the Pacific Northwest over 1,000 miles and 1 month.- Coordinate day to day logistics on the road including: overnight host locations, food donations, cue sheet creation, mail drops, build days with affordable housing affiliates and town hall meetings.- Conducting quarterly evaluations of programmatic operations.- Directing and facilitating team meetings.

I strive to facilitate opportunities for students to become participants in communities of learning that foster empowerment and joy, where the bicycle is a tool for transformation.The effort of MTP intentionally serves diverse, low-income communities to increase access to bicycling. I work directly with students in middle and high schools that are rich in racial and ethnic diversity to create a healthy, safe, and empowering environment for all participants in the ride club. -Plan, coordinate, and lead weekly rides and Spring/Summer field trips. -Ride planning includes route mapping, ride volunteer assignment, and teaching safe cycling habits/behavior.-Co-lead an 8 week Build-a-Bike program.-Conduct outreach for and lead spring ride club.-Keep record of attendance, destination, time, and mileage for each ride in tandem with other ride leaders.-Administer Group Health Research pre-evaluation questionnaires for each new student and follow-up evaluations twice per season.

I traveled to the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes to Kisoro, Uganda to work with the Mt. Gahinga Lodge staff on their community projects. Denali Doghouse was a locally owned restaurant by two friends who wanted to provide travellers with a real Alaskan experience. They owned the Doghouse, McKindley Creekside Cabins, and Alaska Fish and Chips Co, all right outside Denali National Park. The Doghouse provided a warm family feel while filling your bellies with Alaskan products. The kitchen was an open area behind the cashier. So, as the cook I was able to interact with the custsomers and travellers while I am their food right in front of them. I was able to provide the travellers with an experience of connecting with the beautiful area and food.
